These are emails issued to the One Day a Week BKL program for the 2015-2016 season and before.
- Plan for Tuesday 1/26/16 – 1-day a week program January 24, 2016
INFORMATION FOR THE 1 DAY BKL PROGRAM:
Location: Garipay Fields (9 Reservoir Road, Hanover) Time: 3:30-4:30 Technique: Classic (No poles for children in grades K-1) Forecast: High 30s. Upcoming Events Mountain Top Paintball Biathlon at the Mt. Top Resort in Chittenden, VT, Sunday 1-31-16. Pre-register on SkiReg. CALL FOR HELP!
If you have a few minutes to spare at the beginning or end of practice, please help us with grade-level sign-in/out or hot chocolate. SIGN-UP TO VOLUNTEER HERE!
SNACKS:
At the end of practice, we will have snacks. It’s a fun time for kids and parents to socialize after practice. We will have a table set-up and provide drinks (hot chocolate, lemonade), Oreos, and Chips Ahoy.
We are asking families to please bring something to share (homemade or store-bought). Anything snackable is welcome – cookies, chips, fruit. You may drop-off your contribution at 3:30pm, or bring it to the party at around 4:20 and join us for nibbles and socializing!
LOST:
One of our coaches lost her daughter’s 120 cm black and yellow Fisher waxless skis at the end of practice last week. She left them near the K/1 table. If they accidentally ended up at your home, please let me know and I can connect you to their owner (the skis are labeled B. Pekala).
FORD SAYRE BUFFS:
If your child is new to the nordic program and didn’t get a buff last week (Jan. 19), please stop by the K/1 table and get one (Fleece for K/1s; fabric for 2nd grade and higher)!
PAINTBALL BIATHLON: 1/31/16 at Mountain Top Resort in Chittenden, VT
Ford Sayre coaches (across the 1, 2, and 3-day a week BKL programs) support children in a variety of races throughout the winter. While we will tell you about upcoming races, you and your child can decide whether to participate. Racing can be exciting for many kids, but others may not be interested. With that said, the Mountain Top Paintball Biathlon race is a Ford Sayre favorite, is about an hour away, and many kids love the combination of skiing and shooting a paintball gun! If you are interested, sign up on SkiReg and send me a note so I can make sure you get additional race information from our Ford Sayre crew.

INFORMATION FOR THE 1 DAY BKL PROGRAM:
Location: Garipay Fields (9 Reservoir Road, Hanover) Time: 3:30-4:30 Technique: Classic (No poles for children in grades K-1) Forecast: Teens and WINDY. Please remember, we consider the 1-day program as an introduction to skiing. If you are concerned that your child will be too cold, we respect your decision and will look forward to seeing your child on a warmer day! WE NEED YOUR HELP!
If you have a few minutes to spare at the beginning or end of practice, please help us with hot chocolate or grade-level sign-in/out. SIGN-UP TO VOLUNTEER HERE!
IMPORTANT NOTES FOR TUESDAY 1/19:
Dress appropriately! Warm kids are happy kids. With the predicted cold and windy weather, PLEASE send your children dressed in non-cotton layers and make sure they have dry, warm, non-cotton socks (e.g. SmartWool). To add extra warmth, consider toe warmers in their boots and hand warmers in their mittens. You can even add lotion on their faces to prevent them from getting chapped cheeks. (Please note, while we hate to turn away children, all children must be dressed appropriately for spending at least an hour outside.)
Ford Sayre Buffs are back! We want each of our 1-day a week BKL participants to have a buff this winter! If your child is new to the program, please be sure they come home with a buff on Tuesday! We’ll also have extras on hand for those children who were in the program last year, but may have misplaced their buffs.
Still no poles for Kindergarten and 1st grade skiers: Thanks for your understanding; this really helps them learn to ski!
Please let a coach know if your child is having a problem with their equipment (e.g., boots that fall off; skis that don’t grip the snow; etc.). We do our best to catch and correct these problems early.
REMINDERS:
Bathrooms: Please make sure that your child has gone to the bathroom before practice starts. If needed, there is a Port-a-pot at the South end of the Garipay parking lot.
Sign-in: Please remember, all K/1 and 2nd grade students should be signed-in and out of practice by a parent. Children in 3rd or higher grades can sign themselves in, however our coaches still need a verbal or visual verification that their parent/guardian is present at sign-out.
Label your equipment! Please put your name on all of your ski equipment. (I will have some duct tape and permanent markers at the K/1 table if you need to borrow some.)
Lost and Found: We will have a small lost and found bucket by the K/1 check-in area. Please place any lost items in this bucket, and search the bucket if you are missing something.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
I regret to say that I am cancelling tomorrow’s ski practice for the 1-day a week BKL program. The trails (skiing and running) are very icy and dangerous, and an ideal indoor activity space is unavailable for our program. Let’s hope for a snowy week ahead!
Best wishes,
Aricca; BKL.One.Day@FordSayre.org; cell: 603-715-7233
Please note: If you have a child enrolled in the 2-day a week BKL program, they will be meeting tomorrow at the Marion Cross School in Norwich, VT.

INFORMATION FOR THE 1 DAY BKL PROGRAM:
Dear parents and caregivers,
We are looking ahead to Tuesday’s weather and want to warn you that we may not be able to have practice. The conditions are likely to be very icy, which will make it impossible to ski and may make it dangerous to run. We will make the final call by Monday night at 6pm.
Thank you for your understanding.
