These are emails issued to the One Day a Week BKL program for the 2015-2016 season and before.
- Practice Cancelled Today: Tuesday, December 9th December 9, 2014
The Hanover/Norwich Schools have cancelled school today, and, as a result, our practice will be cancelled as well.
I hope you all have some fun at home today! It might be a great day to have the kids throw on their skis and just play around in the yard!

Hello 1-day a week BKL families,
Location: Garipay Time: 3:30-4:30 Technique: Classic skiing Notes:
- There is likelihood of a snow day tomorrow. If there is a snow day or early dismissal, WE WILL NOT HAVE PRACTICE. This is a regular policy for FS. If there IS school, but we have to cancel practice, it will be posted at local schools and on this site by noon.
- We will NOT have snacks tomorrow as the weather forecast is looking bad. We will let you know when we will do snacks again. Rain and cookies don’t go very well together!
- Our 1-day groups will meet tomorrow on the West side (co-op side) of the parking lot. As you look at the ski area, look for our colored signs alongside the edge of the parking lot. Note: The 2-day program is meeting along the Reservoir Road side of the same field – and we are encouraging the 1-day and 2-day a week kids to ski together before practice starts.
- Please make sure that your children have waterproof outer layers – and that you have a dry jacket waiting for them when you pick them up!
- Mike Silverman from Dartmouth will be present at Garipay at practice time tomorrow to pass out Dartmouth ski passes for families who have purchased them. He will be at Garipay from 3:15-4:45. Skiers in the 1-day program do not need a season pass to ski at practice, but will need a pass to ski on the Dartmouth trails at other times.
We hope to see you tomorrow!

Continue reading → - Snacks Next Tuesday & Thetford Ski Sale Reminder December 6, 2014
We hope you are enjoying this beautiful snowy weekend!
Two notes to think about over the weekend:
First:
On Tuesday, 12/9, we hope to have snacks after practice (weather permitting)! The hope is to have a joint celebration with the 2 & 3 day program (we will try to coordinate our practice location but if we aren’t in the same place, the 1 day-ers will still enjoy snacks at Garipay).
We will provide hot chocolate & water and are asking for food contributions from families – homemade or store-bought. Please let us know if you can bring something. (e-mail: bkl.one.day@fordsayre.org)
. You may drop-off contributions at 3:30pm or bring it to the party (around 4:15). We hope that you can join us! Second:
As a final reminder to those families that still have not found equipment for their kids – or that would like to find equipment for others in their family – the Thetford Ski & Skate Sale is tomorrow, Sunday, December 7th from 12:30-2:00 at the Thetford Elementary School. I expect that this will be a great place to find equipment.
Please be in touch with me if you have feedback on our program!

- First day of practice – a success! December 2, 2014
We had a great kick-off for the season this afternoon, and I am still marveling that we had so many kids try out their skis on only an inch of snow, and start to form relationships with their teammates and coaches!
We couldn’t have done it without the support of a really BIG group of volunteers – from the seasoned Ford Sayre volunteers to those that are new this year! THANK YOU! Please do take a chance to get to know your children’s coaching team and our other volunteers – they are really a fun and energetic group – and their primary goal is to make sure that your children have fun (while learning proper ski technique)!
A few housekeeping items:
- Lost and Found: We had two items show up in our lost and found tonight: a bracelet (if you lost one, please e-mail me a description so that I can find its owner) and a child’s book called “Hug Time”.
- Ski equipment: If your child is still looking for ski equipment, here are a few options. Please ask me for help if you continue to struggle with this.
- Thetford Ski & Skate Consignment Sale: December 7th from 12:30-2:00 at the Thetford Elementary School.
- NENSA Lease package: ~$60 plus shipping. https://www.nensa.net/skis/ (They have a very limited supply of skis left – and please note that the sizes of the waxless skis end in a “0”).
- Nordic Barn (Stowe, VT) Lease package: ~$79 for beginning skiers. Ph: 802-253-6433; http://www.nordicbarnvt.com/
- Middlebury Mountaineer (Middlebury, VT) Lease package: ~ $90 for beginning skiers. 802-388-7245; http://www.mmvt.com/content/nordic-ski-lease
- If you want to purchase, check out: Omer and Bob’s in Lebanon; Golf and Ski Center, EMS, or LLBean in West Lebanon; Nordic Skater in Norwich; S&W Sports in Concord – or one of the many online ski retailers.
- E-mails now coming through our Ford Sayre website: In an effort to simplify your lives (and ours), we are changing our communication system. You’re receiving this email through our website. All emails, current and past, will be posted and archived on the site so you can reference them at any time. We also encourage you to USE the site to answer your questions. Check out the menu at the left side of the Nordic, BKL One Day tab. Many of your questions are answered right there.
- Before every practice, you’ll receive an email showing location, time, technique, and upcoming events – and listing important notes. It should show up on your phone looking the same way, so on strange weather days you can check it on your way to practice to see if anything has changed.
- We rarely cancel practice. However, IF PRACTICE IS CANCELLED, it will be posted on the site in this location. The notice should also come to you as an email, but you should always check the site if you aren’t sure since the site will be real time.
Please continue to reach out to me with questions and comments. I want to hear about what is working well, what could be improved, and what is still confusing!
Thanks – and we all hope that your children had fun this afternoon!
