These are emails issued to the One Day a Week BKL program for the 2015-2016 season and before.
- Plan for Tuesday, December 15 — 1-day a week program December 14, 2015
INFORMATION FOR THE 1 DAY BKL PROGRAM:
Location: Ray School (Rear parking lot, near school garden and gymnasium entrance) Time: 3:30-4:30 Technique: Dryland (Please wear tennis shoes; no skis needed!) IMPORTANT NOTES:
Parking: Please park in the main parking lot, bus drop-off, or parent drop-off circles and walk your child to and from the sign-in location. DO NOT drive into the rear staff parking lot closest to the start of practice as this area becomes very crowded with children at the beginning and end of practice and has no good turnaround spot.
Clothing for mild temperatures: We still have beautiful fall weather, so please send your children in appropriate clothing. This means: tennis shoes, light mittens or gloves, hat, lightweight jacket. We will be running through the woods and playing in fields and don’t want your children to get too hot – or to get cold. (Snow pants and boots will be too hot for tomorrow.)
Sign-in: We expect that sign-in processes will become more efficient over time. However, please bear with us while we work out the kinks. All K/1 and 2nd grade students should be signed-in and out of practice by a parent. Children in 3rd or higher grades can sign themselves in, however our coaches still need a verbal or visual verification that their parent/guardian is present at sign-out. As a reminder, please make sure that your child is under adult supervision at all times before and after practice! No child may be unsupervised on the Ray School property!
Bathrooms: Please make sure that your child has gone to the bathroom before practice starts. If needed, there are restrooms in the Ray School that can be used under adult supervision.
FORD SAYRE CLOTHING:
We still have Ford Sayre t-shirts in all sizes for $5. Shirts, and other great items, can be ordered on our online gear store, and will be delivered at our next practice.
REMINDERS ON TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL PRACTICE:
- Practice starts at 3:30 and is only one hour long since sunset is before 4:15. We do our best to begin on time, so try to arrive early so your child can get checked in and find his/her grade level group. We will have signs posted to make it easy.
- Wear non-cotton layers, wool socks and running shoes (no winter boots), hat, and light gloves or mittens. See our What to Wear When you Ski page for more information.
- Sign your child in and out of every practice!
- Save a few minutes to come say hello at the end of practice to the coaches. They are wonderful and want to meet you! You can read about them online on the Meet Our Coaches page.
LOST and FOUND
We will have a small lost and found bucket by the K/1 check-in area. Any items that are found will go in this bucket.
Lost: Two pairs of Axeman leather mittens. If you have found them, please bring them to the lost and found bucket.

Important note for BKL 1-day Program:
We have just learned that all after-school activities in Hanover are cancelled for this afternoon due to the icy road conditions.
As a result, we are cancelling our practice for today.
We apologize for the late notice.

- First Practice!! Plan for Tuesday 12/1/15 – 1-day BKL program November 29, 2015
INFORMATION FOR THE 1 DAY BKL PROGRAM:
Location: Ray School (Rear parking lot, near school garden and gymnasium entrance) Time: 3:30-4:30 Technique: Dryland (wear tennis shoes) NOTES:
WELCOME:
Welcome to the Ford Sayre Nordic 1 Day a week Program! We’ve been loving bumping into families around town and hearing how excited everyone is to get started. We are too! This first email is always a bit long, so bear with us…
EMAILS/POSTS:
Before every practice, you’ll receive an email in this format – a table like the one above with location, time, ski technique (dryland, classic), and (sometimes) upcoming events. It should show up on your phone looking the same way. All emails/posts, current and past, are posted and archived on the site so you can go back and reference them at any time.
We also encourage you to dig into the site to answer your questions. Check out the menu at the left side of the Nordic>BKL 1 Day page of the Ford Sayre website. You’ll be able to find lots of answers to your questions there.
PRACTICE LOCATION:
We are trying something new this year! We will begin our dryland (e.g., no snow) practices from the rear parking lot of the Ray School (by the school garden). Grades K/1 will check in to the right of the school garden (closest to the school), and grades 2, 3-4, and 5-8 will check in to the left of the school garden. The Ray School is located at: 28 Reservoir Rd, Hanover, NH (see images below).
Please make sure that your child is under adult supervision at all times before and after practice! No child may be unsupervised on the Ray School property.
FIRST PRACTICE: Some tips for a successful first day
- Practice starts at 3:30 and is only one hour long since we lose our sunlight before 4:30. We do our best to begin on time, so try to arrive early so your child can gear up and find his/her grade level group. We will have signs posted to make it easy.
- Wear non-cotton layers, wool socks and running shoes (no winter boots), hat, light gloves if it is cold. See our What to Wear When you Ski page for more information.
- Parking! The rear lot of the Ray School gets crowded, so please park in the main lot and walk down. Drive slowly in the evening light!
- Sign your child in and out of every practice!
- Save a few minutes to come say hello at the end of practice to the coaches. They are wonderful and want to meet you! You can read about them online on the Meet Our Coaches page.
DRYLAND PRACTICE:
Although we wish there was snow on the ground, we are excited to work with your children in dryland conditions. What will we do? We use this time to get to know your children and work on the FUNdamentals of agility, balance, and coordination. Our activities are game- and adventure-based, and we will be exploring the trails around the Ray School, Oak Hill, and Garipay Field. When dressing for dryland practice, please have your child wear their tennis shoes, lightweight wool socks, mittens, hat, and non-cotton layers.
CANCELLATION POLICY:
We rarely cancel practice. However, if school is cancelled, we cancel. If practice is cancelled on a day when school is in session (i.e., no snow, bad ice, dangerous conditions), the decision will be made before noon and will be posted on our page. The notice should come to you as an email, but you should always check the site if you aren’t sure since the site will be real time. Cancellations will also be phoned in to local schools before noon. Please make a plan with your child for days when practice is cancelled. They should have a plan B.
INFORMATION FOR PARENTS:
Thank you to those who joined us for our New Families Night on November 4th. A brief handout from the night is posted on the Information for Parents page of our nordic site. Please make sure to read through these materials and let us know if you have any questions!
