This is an archive of emails for the BKL 2 and 3 Day program for the 2015-2016 season and earlier.
- Practice Plan for Thursday, 2-5-15 February 4, 2015
Information for the 2&3 Day Program:
Location: Oak Hill Time: 3:30-4:30 Technique: classic Wax Recommendation: Blue, V30 hard wax – if you still have klister on your classic skis from earlier this season, spend some time to taking it off and then re-wax the kick zone with hard wax. The skiing is glorious right now and having good kick makes it even more fun! Upcoming Race: Nothin’ this weekend with us, but plenty out there on the NENSA calendar Notes:
- We’ll practice at Oak Hill tomorrow in an attempt to stay out of the wind and as warm as possible on the wooded trails. Please be prepared for dropping temperatures!
- There is a xc ski wax clinic at Omer and Bob’s this coming Thursday Feb 5th at 6:30pm. As always, it’s free and open to all and notably there will be a discount on any wax purchased at this clinic. I believe this clinic is for those who already know how to wax and want to understand the next level, but if you are interested, go here or give them a call and ask for details.
- Don’t forget the Hartland Tiki Torch Trek happening this Saturday night, the 7th, from 5-8. See our Community Events page for more information. Feel free to also contact Angela Mowbray (Nicoya’s mom) with questions: angelhike@gmail.com
- Practice Plan for Tuesday 2-3-15 February 2, 2015
Information for the 2&3 Day Program:
Location: Oak Hill Time: 3:30-4:30 Technique: classic in fresh snow! YEHAW! Wax Recommendation: Swix blue kick wax – crayon and cork 2-3 layers Upcoming Race: There is no Ford Sayre supported race this coming weekend, but you can always find a fun event on the NENSA calendar and attend on your own or with friends! Go here for the NENSA calendar. Frost Mountain’s event should be fantastic! Notes:
- What a fabulous time we all had at the Mt Top Paintball Biathlon on Sunday! The skies were blue, the temps weren’t too low, and the wind left us in peace. It was beautiful. 43 skier-sharpshooters participated and smiles abounded. Congratulations to all of the skiers for whom this was a first time experience. We also appreciate the sportsmanship that participating in this type of race requires. Kids can’t control the paintball equipment and there are always glitches – it makes for an interesting and unpredictable race and teaches us to be flexible. Thanks to those kids who figured out how to smile and focus on the fun they had rather than on the technical difficulties! That’s what it is all about! If you have pictures you’d like to share, you can email them to me at bkl.@fordsayre.org and I will put them up on the site.
- Another fun note from the nordic racing world…The IPC Nordic Skiing World Championships took place this past week in Wisconsin and our 5/6 coach and former Paralympic skier Rob Walsh sent along this report from the field: “Just a short report from here in Cable Wisconsin, home of the Birkebeiner and now the IPC Nordic World Championships. For anyone who is interested, there is information available on www.usparalympics.com. Commentary was provided by Thetford resident Peter Graves.” Thanks Rob! Can you believe the range of experience in our coaching staff?

- VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for Silver Fox Trot! January 29, 2015
Hello Everyone,
As we get closer to the BKL FoxTrot on Feb 14th, here are a few critical items:
- Volunteers! We are getting to the point where we really need to fill our roster. If you have already committed to volunteer for the BKL or Eastern Cup race, thank you very much. If not, we really need the help. For example, if we don’t find a raffle chief this week, there will be no raffle! We also need Parking attendants, Registration folks and Food/Bev assistants. Many jobs require only 2 hours of your day. See some specific examples below. Even if your children are not racing, this is your time to give back! Please email me, Lou Bregou, at lou
@flume.net and let me know that you can and will help! - Parking Attendant: 8am -10amParking Attendant: 10am – NoonFood Table: set up/serving 9am -11amFood Table: serving 11am – 1:00pm
Raffle Meister: Limited work on day of event, mostly prep work. (Kids LOVE the raffle! We need YOU!)
- Items. There will be messages from our volunteer leaders asking to bring food etc. in the near term. Keep an eye out. Also, we can’t have enough tables, tents, water jugs, inflatable jumpy houses, etc. so if you have a useful item, email me.
- Register to Race ASAP: https://www.skireg.com/silver-fox-trot. It would be great to have as many BKLers and their parents (there’s a low-key citizen’s race too!) participate in the race at our home event and primary fund raiser. The kids really love to see their parents giving it a shot (just like we ask them to do). We had a blast last year, and this year is going to be even better: The more pre-reg signups we have, the easier it is to plan. Plus, the public can see how many folks have already signed up online. The more of us that sign up early, the more it becomes a popular race and others also sign up.
See you soon,
Lou Bregou
