This is an archive of emails for the BKL 2 and 3 Day program for the 2015-2016 season and earlier.
- Practice Plan for Tuesday, 2-24-15 February 23, 2015
Information for the 2&3 Day Program:
Location: Oak Hill Time: 3:30-5:00 Technique: classic Wax Recommendation: V30 hard wax on kick zone Upcoming Race: Strafford Relays! See note below. Notes:
- BKL Festival registration: Forgot to mention that when you register for the festival, you’ll be asked what district your club is part of. Ford Sayre is part of the “Central Vermont” district.
- Thanks to Angela Mowbray for passing on this fun US Ski Team video of Uptown Funk. Our family loved it! Hope yours will, too. (Michele Vander Heyden and I rocked the hut with our own super rendition (if I do say so myself) of the same tune at Zealand Hut this weekend:) )
- Strafford Relays take place this Sunday, March 1! We love ’em and they are finally here. This is another great opportunity for new skiers to try a race. Two-person teams ski classic relays in the morning and skate relays in the afternoon. The combination of sprint relays (0.5-1km laps), a chilled out atmosphere, and Strafford Creamery ice cream make this something not to miss. Last year we also had lots of parents participate – let’s do it again! Lead coaches will send out an email soon to their age groups, in which they will solicit names of skiers (and parents!) who want to race and would like to be placed with a partner. If your child already has a partner in mind for the relay, go ahead and register them together and let your Lead Coach know. Go here for more information about the event and here to register.
- BKL Festival February 20, 2015
The New England Bill Koch League Festival will be held March 7-8 at the Mountain Top Resort in Chittenden, Vermont. This event is the culminating race weekend for New England teams. Outdoor activities will include x-c ski racing (skate one day and classic the next), Mike’s mini marathon, paintball biathlon, ice cream on snow, snow sculpture, Roger’s roarin’ terrain park, sledding, tubing, ice skating, horse drawn sleigh rides, 8th Grade graduation ski-down, and the ever popular lollipop race.
In addition to the competitive freestyle and classic races, this year the BKL Festival has added non-competitive options, known as “Nordic Adventure” events. These are perfect for kids new to skiing and nervous about racing, younger siblings who might not be racers yet, or just those who prefer to enjoy the winter wonderland without thinking about results. All skiers (competitive and non-competitive) will have a schedule to allow everyone to experience activities such as ice cream making and paintball, where space is limited.
The deadline for reduced rate registration is this Friday, February 20th. After that point, registration fees increase $10. The deadline to register for the festival is Saturday February 28th.We will have more information specific to our club’s participation coming out soon. The first thing to do if your child and family are interested in participating is to register. On the registration page you will notice that Mt. Top is holding a dinner on Saturday night. Typically FS families sign up for the Saturday night dinner as it is a great way to socialize with other clubs, but this is not required.Find more information on the festival website: http://www.2015bklfestival.comAnd click here to register! https://www.skireg.com/2015nebklfestival - Falun Nordic World Ski Championships February 19, 2015

The Putney Ski Club has decided to dust off the old “Putney Relays” brand and run a classic style relay event with an emphasis on participation and fun. To learn more go here.”
