A Note from the 2&3 Day Nordic BKL Program:
The brisk air is a good reminder that skiing is near…
REGISTRATION:
Registration closes Oct 31. Go here.
NENSA Peak Weekend Challenge:
From NENSA (New England Nordic Ski Association): “We’re bringing back the tradition of the autumn NENSA hike, but with a twist… Let’s see how many of us we can get to the top of mountains across the northeast in one weekend! This is a FUNdraiser for NENSA’s Skis for Kids program. A $5 donation gets you registered and into the running for some fun prizes. All you need to do is get out, go up, & post your summit photo to our Facebook page.” While Ford Sayre is not organizing anything specific, call your friends, get a hike organized and get out onto the beautiful trails to support NENSA’s lease program that benefits so many of our families. Go here to learn more.
VOLUNTEER AT THE FS SKI SALE:
Bravo to the 9 JNT and 8th grade skiers who have already signed up to volunteer to help at the ski sale. If you have an experienced 7/8 skier who has been with the program for a number of years, we are counting on your child to volunteer. Go here to add your name to our sign-up sheet.

A Note from the 2&3 Day Nordic BKL Program:
NEW FAMILIES NIGHT
Families new to the 2&3 Day program (or those who still have questions about the program) are strongly encouraged to join us on Wednesday, November 4, from 6:00-6:45 at the Black Center in Hanover, for our first-ever “New Families Night.” Come learn about the logistics and philosophy of the program, and meet our Program heads, Head and Lead coaches, our Wax Guru and our New Families Coordinator. We’ll model and discuss different types of ski gear and explain the science of dressing for nordic skiing. And, we will prove to you just how easy it is to wax your skis! Our Clothing Goddess will also be in attendance to share this year’s Ford Sayre fashion statements. While this meeting is not required, it is very strongly encouraged. Come learn about our program and ask questions. We will meet in the upstairs conference room. If you can come kid-less, that would be ideal. If you can’t, we will have a few volunteers there to keep an eye on school-aged kids during the meeting. Put the date on your calendar and join us!
SKIERS (& PARENTS), PLEASE VOLUNTEER AT THE FORD SAYRE COUNCIL SKI SWAP
On Sunday, Nov 8, from 12:00-2:00, the Ford Sayre Ski Council will hold its annual Ski Swap and Sale. For details go here.
All FS Council ski programs are encouraging skiers in 7th grade and above to volunteer at the Ski Swap. Our skiers will help answer general questions about matching folks to equipment (pole and ski size, matching of binding systems to boots), carry things to families’ cars, and hand out FS magnets. We understand that this event happens before the season begins. Regardless, please sign up to help! Volunteer slots are broken into two-hour time slots between 11:30 and 4:30 – a short period of volunteer work giving back to the larger community that gives us all so much. Parents are welcome to sign-up as well. Please add your skier’s name to our google doc volunteer list here:
GEAR:
As you purchase or lease gear for the season, please remember that 2&3 day skiers need:
- Both skate and classic skis OR combi skis (waxless skis are not acceptable for this program as they make a skier much, much slower and therefore difficult to keep up with the group)
- Combi boots with a stiff, plastic ankle cuff. Do not purchase boots with a flexible cuff. Such boots are designed only for classic skiing and your skier will curse you forever if s/he has to learn to skate ski in this type of boots:)
- Preferably two pairs of poles – one for classic, one for skate (see website for how to measure)
Our site has comprehensive information on where to get gear and how to fit gear. Go to our “Ski Gear Info” page here . Our “Used Gear Exchange” page has great used items from other Ford Sayre families for sale. Check it out here . Post your own stuff, too. AND, please delete your items once you have sold them!
DARTMOUTH TRAIL PASSES
The discount for family passes for Ford Sayre families ends on November 7. Go to our “Dartmouth Trail Passes” page for more information and to download the application.
