- Race Plan for This Weekend, Saturday 2/13/16 February 10, 2016
INFORMATION FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN RACING:
Location: Rikert Nordic Center – At Middlebury College’s Breadloaf campus http://www.rikertnordic.com/ Time: Saturday – See race organization sheet below Technique: skate Wax Recommendation: see race doc **The races at Woodstock on Sunday have been cancelled and rescheduled to Feb 28 Rikert is hosting “Febblast,” a skate race this Saturday for BKL ages. This is a wonderful opportunity to ski on good SNOW. What a thought! Rikert has snowmaking and is also at a much higher elevation, so the snow should be nice. There will be a BBQ in the barn after the races, as well. It should be a fantastic community ski event.
Two Action items to complete ASAP if your child wants to race:
- Go to the registration page below and complete the “form” so Rikert knows your child will be there. They are planning food, etc. https://docs.google.com/a/fordsayre.org/forms/d/1wUT2TbM3XfB-0-RCGroEv97qAFpd26XyM786zE2QmQ0/viewform?c=0&w=1
- Add your child’s name to our race organization doc so Jay and coaches know your child plans to be there: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Ia1R4tWzNVKZzmSYDZwj8wVr-UbeESBaIGucJ5KcfP8/edit?usp=sharing
More later for those who decide to race.
Cheers!
Ashley and Peter

INFORMATION FOR THE 2&3 DAY PROGRAM:
Location: Garipay – we will gather to the left as you drive in to the parking lot, please. (The one-day program will be on the right.) Bring running shoes as well, please. Time: 3:30-4:30 Technique: classic Wax Recommendation: V45 in the kickzone Upcoming Event/Race: The lack of snow is keeping us on our toes! We are thinking of joining the folks at Rikert (Middlebury) this Saturday for some racing. They have snow making there. More details to come… NOTES:
TOMORROW:
Again, bring sneakers as well as skis. We believe we will have 2-4 inches to ski on at Garipay tomorrow but if not, we will do some activities on foot. Keep your fingers crossed!!
7th/8th VAN TRIP TO CRAFTSBURY A SUCCESS:
Thanks to Angela Mowbray, Nicoya’s mom, for arranging a van to take a group of 7/8th graders to Craftsbury to watch the final Eastern Cup races (high school-aged and college kids racing). Jay Davis led the group and not only did it cheer on fellow Ford Sayre high school skiers, but the skiers also managed to get in more than 15km of skiing on a 1.5km loop! Woohoo!
SCHOOL VACATION NEXT WEEK:
We do not hold organized practices during the Dresden School February vacation week, but we encourage you to go look for snow and find some skiing with friends.
Cheers,
Ashley and Peter

INFORMATION FOR THE 2&3 DAY PROGRAM:
TOMORROW:
Man! Mother Nature is giving us a run for our money! We have checked out various spots around Hanover, but the wet and ice are making things sketchy. Practice is cancelled for tomorrow. We hope you can find a way to be active with a friend or two.
BANQUET DATE:
We will celebrate our season at the Black Community Center on Monday, March 14, 5-7pm. Note that there is no school in the Dresden district that day, but we WILL have our banquet. Please save the date. More to come from Ursula Slate, Banquet Coordinator Extraordinaire, as the date approaches.
FUN FROM THE HEAD COACHES:

And this from Jessie Diggins’ blog from the Tour de Ski (http://jessiediggins.com/tales-from-the-tour/).
I was so excited about this win because it not only proved to myself
that I am capable of skiing with the best in the World, but that every
little kid growing up in the US is, too. Because I’m not a special
person. I’m not the strongest, and I don’t have crazy raw speed or
talent. I don’t always make great tactical decisions, and my technique
has a long way to go. But I ski with a lot of heart, and I know how to
push my body as far as it will go, and then a little farther. I grew
up skiing in the Minnesota Youth Ski League club, and I raced with my
high school team in Stillwater. I didn’t do anything crazy or special,
just loved to ski with my friends. So if I can do it, you can, too!
And that’s the best message I can possibly send home…that it’s
possible for young skiers in the US to keep dreaming those impossibly
big dreams, because they’re coming true right now.
