- NH High School Ski Jumping Competition January 26, 2015
Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 6:00pm Roger Burt Memorial Jump, Oak Hill, Hanover Free Admission
This exciting competition starts at 6pm this coming Wednesday night, and only lasts about an hour. Come join us for hot chocolate, campfire, marshmallows, athletic courage and quite likely a few good wipe outs. Anyone coming please bring any noisemakers you have (bells, horns, etc.) to cheer the Hanover High School team competing in this state-wide event! It’ll be a popular event with a crowd. Therefore, it’s best to park close by in the parking lot of the Ray School on Reservoir Road. Watch top Male and Female High School competitors from around the state soar over 100 feet under the lights. DIRECTIONS- From downtown Hanover take Lyme Road (Rt 10 North to the first rotary just before the COOP Foodstore).
- Take the first right off the rotary onto Reservoir Road.
- Reservoir road comes to a “T” after roughly 0.7 miles.
- Take a left down to the Storrs Pond/Oak Hill ski complex.
- Park there. The jumps are up the hill to the left (hidden by a few trees). From the parking lot you’ll see the lights from the ski jumping complex shining through the trees.
- Race Information for Mansfield Duathlon – Sunday, Jan 25, 2015 January 23, 2015
The Mansield Duathlon is being held at Craftsbury this Sunday. Races begin at 1:00pm with the Lollipops and move on from there. Go here for up-to-date event information. Or here to register through SkiReg.org
The duathlon requires both skate and classic ski techniques. We will have a waxing crew to help with the waxing of classic skis. You must bring your skate skis prepared. Bring both sets of poles. See our organization doc for wax prep information and arrival/wax bench information. PLEASE MARK EVERYTHING WITH NAMES AS THERE WILL BE AN INSANE NUMBER OF SKIS AROUND! Clearly mark the kick zones join the sides of your skis with a sharpie pen and label the top front of the skis with NAME and GRADE LEVEL on a piece of medical tape or duct tape.
It is incredibly helpful if we know IN ADVANCE if your child plans to ski on Sunday so we can be prepared for the number of skis we will have to wax. Please take two minutes to add your skier’s name to our race organization google doc here. Thanks in advance for helping us out.
Craftsbury is a fabulous place for a family ski day, so bring the family, ski together in the morning, enjoy the new lodge and join in the fun of the races in the afternoon.
See you there!
Ashley, Peter and Jay

- Oak Hill and Garipay conditions won’t seem to cooperate, so we have another solution…
- Practice tomorrow will be by towns:
- Hanover/Norwich kids who are able and eager to get out, please join us at the Millikens’ house in Norwich, for crust SKATE skiing in the meadows. Drive to the top of Happy Hill Rd, take a right into #160, drive all the way to the house turn around near the garage, turn around and drive back out and park on the right side of the driveway facing the road as far to the right side as possible. Please drive SLOWLY on Happy Hill Rd – it is a one lane road with a blind curve and is dangerous. We will aim to start around 3:30 but please don’t rush.
- Thetford/Lyme kids: Lyme and Thetford skiers will be skiing in Lyme, with Jay Davis coordinating timing, technique and logistics with those families.
- Kids from other towns: Join in where you wish!
- Meadow Skiing January 20, 2015
Intrepid Skiers,
Mother Nature is not making it easy for us to gather to ski as a group BUT there is very good local skiing to be had. Many of our local meadows have set up for perfect crust skiing. I just spent 45 minutes classic skiing on waxless skis at our house and it was fantastic! So while we do not have an official practice today why not go find a meadow to ski on?
If you have no access to a meadow near your home then any and all could ski at our local meadows by parking carefully at the turnaround at the end of Happy Hill Road in Norwich or along our driveway at 160 Happy Hill.
So get out there and email us a picture of your meadow adventure!
-Coach Peter
