- Updates and Reminders: BKL 1-day a week program February 15, 2015Congratulations to the many Ford Sayre skiers who participated in this weekend’s Silver Fox Trot race in Hanover. It was wonderful to share in your excitement – and to witness the sense of community that continues to build around the Ford Sayre nordic program! Continue reading →Thanks go out to everyone who helped make the event possible. Many, many families volunteered time – some hours, some days – to pull it off. Watching everyone put up the event, run it, and take it down with smiles on everyone’s faces was a spectacular thing. We would like to give enormous thanks to Lou Bregou, our Race Director. Lou spends many months preparing with his teams for this event. It is a herculean task, and he pulled if off beautifully once again! Thank you, Lou. We hope you all enjoy this week of vacation and rest. Please remember that we will not hold practices this coming week since it is vacation week for the Dresden school district. We’ll see everyone again on Tuesday, February 24, and will wrap up our regular season on Tuesday, March 3. Please also mark your calendars for an end-of-year potluck celebration on the evening of Friday, March 13 at the Richard W. Black Recreation & Senior Center in Hanover (more details to come).
- Glad to Be a Part of This Team Called Ford Sayre February 15, 2015
Wow! What a day we had yesterday! The weather cooperated, the skies were blue and there was such a wonderful sense of community out on Garipay fields. We came home on a high feeling so fortunate to be part of this wonderful family that Ford Sayre nordic is.
Thanks go out to everyone who helped make the event possible. Many, many families volunteered time – some hours, some days – to pull it off. Watching everyone put up the event, run it, and take it down with smiles on everyone’s faces was a spectacular thing.
Especially, we would like to give enormous thanks to Lou Bregou, our intrepid Race Director.
We’ll see everyone again on Tuesday, February 24.
Cheers and have fun in the snow!

All,
We are excited to have so many FS skiers participating in the races on Saturday. As of this morning, we have 64 FS skiers registered! Go Ford Sayre!
The official race information is on the Silver Fox Trot tab on our site. Please check it on Friday night and Saturday morning as race start times may be delayed if it is too cold.
Our race organization document should have just arrived in your inbox. Please read it and add your child to his/her grade level list.
DRIVING/PARKING:
There will be enormous numbers of families skiing at Garipay and Oak Hill on Saturday as well as a basketball tournament at the Ray School. Please make an effort to carpool to the races if you can. Parking will be tight. It would be very helpful if families did not bring two cars. If we find alternative parking, we may ask willing FS families to park a bit up Rt 10, but we are still waiting to hear on that front. Stay tuned.
REGISTRATION:
All bib pick up and day-of-race registration will take place in the Ray School lobby. When you arrive, please drive to the Ray school, park temporarily, pick up your bib/s and then get back in your car and park at Garipay or the Dartmouth Day Care Center. BKL FAMILIES ARE ASKED NOT TO PARK AT THE RAY SCHOOL. Please remind your friends and family about this, too. That lot is reserved for Eastern Cup participants.
COLD:
It is predicted to be very cold on Saturday. ALL children should wear appropriate layers, toe warmers, hats and BUFFS, and for younger racers, mittens will work better than gloves. Make sure ears are covered by hats or buffs. We will have a tent erected so kids can get out of the cold, but it won’t be hot in there, so be prepared.
Racers should wear parkas over race jackets/suits and keep them on all the way until, and as, they line up in the starting area. If your child wants to race in race tights, make sure s/he has layers on under them and then warm up pants on top that can be easily removed at the start area. It is fine fro your child to race in what s/he wears to practice. Many children will do that. There will be adults available in the starting area to take parkas from kids just before the race. The parkas/pants will be piled near the start line and children can retrieve them after the race. It is important to stay warm as long as possible before the race starts. After the race, make sure your skier gets right back into a parka and warm pants. Have hand warmers and mittens available for after the race as well. Kids sweat during the race and then they will need to put their warm layers back on after the race so they don’t get chilled.
FOOD:
Don’t forget to bring your contribution!
A through H – please bring baked goods (muffins, cookies, breads, etc.). There will be no plates or utensils. If bringing breads or bar cookies, pre-cut would be preferable.
I through S – please bring drinks (juice, cider or water) and/or paper hot beverage cups to match. A large of cooler of water will be provided.
T through Z – please bring fruit (apples, sliced oranges, bananas, grapes etc).
Sunday Race Possibility:
Since the Woodstock race has been cancelled, if your child is interested in trying a classic race, head to Holderness Sunday afternoon for the BKL Cheri Walsh Memorial at the Holderness Trails in Plymouth. This Classic race starts at 1:30 p.m. after the morning of Eastern Cup races, registration is day of only from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Go here for more details. FS does not officially support this race, so you’re on your own for waxing:)
We are excited to see you out there! Bring a cow bell and lets all cheer for the Ford Sayre skiers!
Go Ford Sayre!
