- Passion for Snow February 25, 2015The Hanover Historical Society is sponsoring a showing of the film, Passion for Snow, on Wednesday, Feb. 25th, at 7 pm, in the Mayer Room of the Howe Library. Please spread the word to friends and family, and join us. Passion for Snow, produced by the Dartmouth College Class of 1965, tells about the role that Dartmouth College, the town of Hanover, and the Ford Sayre program played in developing the U.S. ski industry. The film covers: the beginning of collegiate skiing in 1910; the development of current day ski racing techniques like the slalom (1925), downhill (1927), and giant slalom (1937); the start of the Winter Olympics; the founding/developing of most major US Ski Resorts; the U.S. Army Mountain troops in WW II; and the training of disabled skiers. With old film footage, new interviews and period music, the film shows how Dartmouth and Hanover utilized their fortunate placement in snow country to have a phenomenal influence over winter activities worldwide. The film was nominated for an Emmy and won the Outdoor Writers’ Association First Place award as Ski History Film of the Year. More info about the movieContinue reading →

- Practice Plan for Tuesday, 2-24-15 February 23, 2015
Information for the 2&3 Day Program:
Location: Oak Hill Time: 3:30-5:00 Technique: classic Wax Recommendation: V30 hard wax on kick zone Upcoming Race: Strafford Relays! See note below. Notes:
- BKL Festival registration: Forgot to mention that when you register for the festival, you’ll be asked what district your club is part of. Ford Sayre is part of the “Central Vermont” district.
- Thanks to Angela Mowbray for passing on this fun US Ski Team video of Uptown Funk. Our family loved it! Hope yours will, too. (Michele Vander Heyden and I rocked the hut with our own super rendition (if I do say so myself) of the same tune at Zealand Hut this weekend:) )
- Strafford Relays take place this Sunday, March 1! We love ’em and they are finally here. This is another great opportunity for new skiers to try a race. Two-person teams ski classic relays in the morning and skate relays in the afternoon. The combination of sprint relays (0.5-1km laps), a chilled out atmosphere, and Strafford Creamery ice cream make this something not to miss. Last year we also had lots of parents participate – let’s do it again! Lead coaches will send out an email soon to their age groups, in which they will solicit names of skiers (and parents!) who want to race and would like to be placed with a partner. If your child already has a partner in mind for the relay, go ahead and register them together and let your Lead Coach know. Go here for more information about the event and here to register.
