Hello All,
It’s time to look ahead to the Bill Koch League Festival that will take place next weekend, March 7 & 8!
The Event: As many of you know, every year the season ends with an enormous festival consisting of two days of races for lollipoppers through 8th graders. This year, the festival will take place at Mt Top Inn and Resort in Chittenden, Vt, which is about 1 1/2 hrs from Hanover. For information about the festival, go to NENSA’s page here. On Saturday, kids will participate in skate relay races (teams are made by districts, not families), and on Sunday the kids will compete on classic skis in individual races. Over the course of the weekend there will also be tubing, terrain parks, ice cream making, paintball biathlon practice, and a new addition, “adventure events,” for kids who don’t want to participate in the races. Please register your child ASAP. Online registration closes on Saturday, 28 feb 15 @ 5 pm but it is helpful to do it earlier…before this weekend if possible. Go here to register. The Turkey dinner Saturday night is one that many usually attend, but it is up to each family to sign up as part of registration.
Lodging: FS families typically spend Friday and Saturday nights at a hotel to reduce travel time, but I know this year some families will be driving each day since Mt Top is not too far away. Many families will be staying in Rutland at the Best Western but these reservations were made a long time ago and I hear they are now full. I have been told that the Comfort Inn in Rutland has some rooms. From the NENSA site, it looks like rooms are also still available at the Hampton Inn, and the Days Inn. Click here for contact information. The Mendon View Lodge also has plenty of rooms. Click here for their website.
Also, Teresa Lust and her 8th grade daughter, Margo, have two extra spots in their room on Saturday night since her husband and son can’t come. If you would like to share a room with them, let her know at Teresa.lust@valley.net
Get Organized With Us: To help with our own club’s organization, if you plan to attend, please add your information to this google doc. Also, please sign up for a volunteer job to help us get the FS tasks done. Go to our Coaching and Volunteer document here. It was such a great team effort last year! Looking forward to a repeat.
Questions: Please feel free to email me with any questions you might have. We are here to help! bkl@fordsayre.org or call us at (802) 649-2159.
Cheers,
Ashley and Peter

Information for the 2&3 Day Program:

- Strafford Relays Registration: Folks are noticing that you can’t register a skier for the races without both teammates’ names. Here’s the plan. 1) If your child wants to race, email you his/her name to his/her grade level Lead Coach no later than tomorrow at practice 2) Lead Coaches will create teams for those who need a partner. If your child has a partner already, let your coach know and go ahead and register the team 3) On Friday, Lead coaches will let parents know the teams so parents can register. Only one parent per team should register both kids on the team. Sorry for the confusion. PARENTS WHO WANT TO RACE and are looking for a partner should email Jay Davis at jay.t.davis
@dartmouth.edu. He’s happy to help match you up. Come on! Get out there! - The Falun World Championships have been AMAZING to watch. We won’t spoil it for those who didn’t catch it yet, but yesterday’s women’s 10K was historic for the US. You can stream them easily this year for the first time or watch recorded versions in the evening as a family. Watching the technique and excitement at the highest level goes a long way for kids (and parents:)) Go here for more: http://nordic.usskiteam.com/nordic
- Jay Davis shared this wonderful video interview with Canadian medalist, Alex Harvey. There’s a great bit about working with strengths and weaknesses as a skier. Go here on Faster Skier to watch it.
- An email regarding the BKL Festival and details will come tomorrow.
- Make sure you mark your calendars for Wednesday, March 11, from 5:30-7:00 for the end of season FS Nordic Banquet. More to come on that soon.
- Our last practice is next Thursday, March 5! Wow! How did that happen? We won’t have Friday practice next week as many will be heading to the festival that afternoon.
