- Plan for Friday, 1-22-16 January 21, 2016INFORMATION FOR THE FRIDAY/3 DAY PROGRAM:
Location: Oak Hill Time: 3:30-4:30 Technique: BOTH! Please bring both your classic and your skate skis and both poles. Make sure everything is LABELED. Wax Recommendation: V40 for classic kick wax Upcoming Event/Race: Mansfield Duathlon – more info coming tomorrow - Please Wear Dartmouth Passes in Orange Armband January 21, 2016
All,
Dartmouth has asked that our skiers – coaches and kids – wear their season passes in the bright orange armbands during practice. They hope that by our wearing the bands, others will take note that a pass is required. Of course, when you are skiing at Oak Hill at other times, you should wear the pass as well. This is a new request. Thanks for making an effort to honor it. We are hoping it can become part of the routine when kids put on their gear.
If you didn’t send your child with his/her pass today, no worries, just try to next time.
See you on the snow.
Ashley and Peter

SNACKS:
Please bring a contribution for snacks tomorrow! We have drinks. Bring anything snack-able to share. You can drop it pre or post practice with Jane or Tracy near the cabin. And join us for nibbles and socializing at around 4:20!
LOST:
Hilary, one of our coaches, lost her black, down vest on Tuesday. She left it near a post in the stadium and when she came back, it was gone. If your child has something similar, would you check to make sure it isn’t Hilary’s? Thanks for shouting to me if you have it.
OTHER OPTIONS THIS WEEKEND:
Putney is also holding a race this Sunday. While our coaches will be at Craftsbury, and thus we will not have coaches at Putney, families are always welcome to attend on their own. Plan on a 10:00 start time at The Grammar School in Putney.
Cheers!

INFORMATION FOR THE 2&3 DAY PROGRAM:
Location: Oak Hill – COLD AND WINDY! Dress appropriately! Buffs, toe warmers, layers! Time: 3:30-4:30 Technique: classic Wax Recommendation: V30/blue – two or three thin layers corked into the kick zone of the ski. You can do this tonight with your child and then send your skier with a cork and some wax in a baggie in his/her pocket in case s/he needs more. For an 8 min video on what to do, go here. Forward to minute 5:38 to get to the part on actually applying the kick wax, but the whole thing is pretty good if you have the time. Coaches will help those with questions tomorrow. Upcoming Event/Race: Mansfield Duathlon at Craftsbury, Sunday 1-24-16. To register, https://www.nensa.net/calendar/index.php?id=1758 NOTES:
THANKS:
Last week was a challenging week for xc logistics. Thanks to all our coaches for making our indoor days fun and productive and to parents and skiers for their flexibility and positive attitudes. You can go to our “photos” link to see some shots of what we did inside at MCS.
SNACKS THURSDAY:
At the end of Thursday’s practice, we will have our second snacks of the season. It’s a fun time for kids and parents to socialize after practice. Our first one was a great success – lots of food & smiles. We will have a table set-up and provide drinks (cocoa, lemonade) and we have reusable cups for the kids.
We are asking families to please bring something to share (homemade or store-bought). Anything snackable is welcome – cookies, chips, fruit. You may drop-off your contribution at 3:30pm or bring it to the party at around 4:20 – please come find us by the hut at the far end of the parking lot.
Thanks,
Tracy Zuckerman & Jane Phipps

INFORMATION FOR THE 1 DAY BKL PROGRAM:
Location: Garipay Fields (9 Reservoir Road, Hanover) Time: 3:30-4:30 Technique: Classic (No poles for children in grades K-1) Forecast: Teens and WINDY. Please remember, we consider the 1-day program as an introduction to skiing. If you are concerned that your child will be too cold, we respect your decision and will look forward to seeing your child on a warmer day! WE NEED YOUR HELP!
If you have a few minutes to spare at the beginning or end of practice, please help us with hot chocolate or grade-level sign-in/out. SIGN-UP TO VOLUNTEER HERE!
IMPORTANT NOTES FOR TUESDAY 1/19:
Dress appropriately! Warm kids are happy kids. With the predicted cold and windy weather, PLEASE send your children dressed in non-cotton layers and make sure they have dry, warm, non-cotton socks (e.g. SmartWool). To add extra warmth, consider toe warmers in their boots and hand warmers in their mittens. You can even add lotion on their faces to prevent them from getting chapped cheeks. (Please note, while we hate to turn away children, all children must be dressed appropriately for spending at least an hour outside.)
Ford Sayre Buffs are back! We want each of our 1-day a week BKL participants to have a buff this winter! If your child is new to the program, please be sure they come home with a buff on Tuesday! We’ll also have extras on hand for those children who were in the program last year, but may have misplaced their buffs.
Still no poles for Kindergarten and 1st grade skiers: Thanks for your understanding; this really helps them learn to ski!
Please let a coach know if your child is having a problem with their equipment (e.g., boots that fall off; skis that don’t grip the snow; etc.). We do our best to catch and correct these problems early.
REMINDERS:
Bathrooms: Please make sure that your child has gone to the bathroom before practice starts. If needed, there is a Port-a-pot at the South end of the Garipay parking lot.
Sign-in: Please remember, all K/1 and 2nd grade students should be signed-in and out of practice by a parent. Children in 3rd or higher grades can sign themselves in, however our coaches still need a verbal or visual verification that their parent/guardian is present at sign-out.
Label your equipment! Please put your name on all of your ski equipment. (I will have some duct tape and permanent markers at the K/1 table if you need to borrow some.)
Lost and Found: We will have a small lost and found bucket by the K/1 check-in area. Please place any lost items in this bucket, and search the bucket if you are missing something.
