Dear Ford Sayre Community Members, Please consider voting “YES” on Article Eight at the Hanover Town Meeting on May 10th. WHY is this important?  Discussions are underway to enhance the cross country ski experience at Oak Hill (the trails near Storr’s Pond), with the goal of creating more reliable snow conditions through snow-making, homologation of trails (homologation is a fancy term for a “system of evaluation” that is designed to guide the development and upgrade of Cross-Country competition courses), and lighting.  The college is also exploring the possibility of constructing a facility for skiers and other outdoor recreation users to be used for ski tuning/waxing, refuge and training during inclement weather, restrooms, and a gathering space. What does article eight change? Article eight (amendment 7) changes the definition of “outdoor recreation” and makes it clear that buildings and structures associated with outdoor recreation are allowed as Special Exceptions.  It adds structures associated with Outdoor Recreation to the list of Special Exceptions in districts where Outdoor Recreation is an allowed use. Please note that any new structures that are allowed with this new definition of outdoor recreation must still be reviewed and approved by the Zoning Board of Adjustment. Greetings from your new Program Head! I come to the position as someone who didn’t ski growing up, but now has two sons that ski in the BKL program as well as a husband that helps coach. I am excited to be more personally involved within the BKL community. So, while the skis are put away, the snow is gone (was it ever really here?), we are thinking about how to make our future skiing experiences even better…

Ford Sayre Community Members:  Vote “YES” on Article Eight at the Hanover Election on May 10th or get an absentee ballot (see link below)

WHY is this important?  Discussions are underway to enhance the cross country ski experience at Oak Hill.  Included in these discussions is the addition of a ski lodge.  Imagine being able to socialize with fellow skiers before and after practice in the comfort of a lodge.  Imagine being able to bring a cold child inside to warm up by a fire.  Imagine being able to watch technique videos with teammates.  Imagine how our Ford Sayre and larger ski community could flourish with a gathering spot at the trails!

So Hanover voters, please vote “Yes” on Article Eight.  And all Ford Sayre community members – Tell 10 Hanover friends to vote “Yes” too!!!

We had a great turnout for the end-of-season banquet earlier this month and we owe some special recognition to Amy Goodney and Heidi Reiss for once again planning and executing a fun, well-run event. Thanks also to the long list of folks who helped out, including but certainly not limited to Bruce Sacerdote on beverages and Geoff and Suzi Curtis on entertainment.

Hurrah for Jay! We can’t imagine a more deserving person to be recognized with this award. Below is the beginning of the NENSA article on Jay. Go here for the complete text and photos.

NENSA is pleased to announce that the winner of the 2016 Bill Koch League Youth Leadership Award is Jay Davis of Ford Sayre. Jay Davis has been involved as a Coach at Ford Sayre for 18 years! Jay is a natural at coaching, and he coaches youth sports during every season. He is a role model as a skier and all around athlete, running, hiking, biking and getting skis in before work even on the coldest days of the year. He keeps things fun and adventurous and is someone who truly embodies the spirit of the Bill Koch Youth Ski League…..

Make sure to give him a high five or a hug when you see him next!
